About Wayusa

That's Wayusa exactly

Wayusa is a holly tree that is distantly related to yerba mate. Although it is the plant with the highest caffeine content, it is alkaline and contains all the essential amino acids that the body needs to survive. In addition, Wayusa contains twice as many antioxidants as green tea - a true superfood!

Unlike coffee, the caffeine in Wayusa is not absorbed in the stomach, but only in the intestinal tract. This means that the effect builds up a bit slower than with a coffee, but lasts much longer! Wayusa gives the energy for the whole day and helps to be in the NOW. Due to the gentle and blood pressure-regulating effect, the body is not exposed to any unnatural stress. This relaxed alertness is called "matchachyn" by the Indians and describes exactly this special, pleasant state after drinking Wayusa.

Wayusa's intensity is varied over the cooking time - the longer Wayusa cooks, the stronger it gets - without ever becoming bitter! The Indians often cook Wayusa over the fire for several hours! However, we recommend cooking Wayusa for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Wayusa is also so versatile and harmonizes wonderfully with a wide variety of spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric or ginger. Feel free to try a shot of plant milk or honey - it's so great to experiment with! In summer, when it's hot, we also like to drink ice-cold Wayusa tea - the best thirst quencher that gives you pure jungle energy!

Fast preparation in the mocha pot

For quick preparation you need the Wayusa Powder and a standard mocha pot/espresso pot.

Wayusa Espresso Shot Recipe

Fill the powder sieve of a commercial espresso pot about half full with Wayusa powder ( Wayusa Original Powder ) and prepare it like an espresso and DO NOT press!

Attention : the shot has it all and contains the full, concentrated power of the jungle! Refined with a dash of milk of your choice, it simply tastes unique and gives you the kick you need to start the day! : )

Important : When preparing in the espresso pot, the powder cannot be used a second time, as with traditional preparation. The pressure of the steam releases all the nutrients from the plant powder.

Traditional preparation in the pot

Traditionally Wayusa is prepared like this:

Place a pot with 1 liter of cold water, stir in 3 - 5 teaspoons Wayusa Original Cut (or Powder) and bring to the boil. When it boils, turn the heat down to low and simmer for at least 15-20 minutes (or longer, depending on how intense you want it). You don't need a tea filter, because the leaves sink to the bottom when it's ready, so you can pour out the tea without annoying leaf particles. The sheet material left at the end can be reused 2 - 3 times!

Scientific tests show that the second infusion contains almost as much caffeine as the first! However, the 3rd time we would add some fresh Wayusa again.

frequently asked Questions

FAQs

Is Wayusa a coffee substitute?

No. Wayusa is so unique that it really cannot be compared to anything else. Wayusa is practically the healthiest "wake-up maker" - you can use caffeine without the typical side effects.

How does Wayusa taste?

Wayusa has an earthy, slightly sweet and nutty flavor with a hint of caramel. You can literally taste the energy of the jungle!

Can you overcook Wayusa?

No. Since Wayusa does not contain any bitter substances (tannins), you can boil the tea until it reaches the optimal intensity for you without ever becoming bitter.

Can Wayusa be infused multiple times (like green tea)?

Yes, you can easily infuse Wayusa 2 to 3 times. The second infusion is pretty much as "potent" as the first. The third time it is sufficient if you only add half a teaspoon of fresh tea.

Is Wayusa "BIO"?

Yes - Wayusa is 100% organically grown by the Kichwa Indians in Ecuador, carefully harvested by hand and gently dried. The organic certificate is very expensive and must be renewed annually. Since we are still in the early stages of our project, the certificate will probably be "rescheduled" in the course of this year!

Is our packaging ecological?

Yes! All of our packaging is 100% compostable and is made from paper and a mix of sugar beet/corn extract. Of course you will find the seedling and TÜV Austria logo on the bottom of our packaging. You can easily dispose of the packaging (including the zip lock) in the organic waste!

Why is the best before date only 1 year? It's dried tea, isn't it?

This has to do with the nature of our 100% compostable packaging. The packaging itself can only be kept for a maximum of 1 year - which is why we recommend decanting the tea into another container before it "expires". Wayusa itself can easily be stored for several years if stored in a cool, dry place away from light. However, we are not aware of any case where someone took a chance ;-)

Can Wayusa be consumed during pregnancy?

Pregnant women and nursing mothers should always consult a doctor before eating caffeinated foods.
