Black copal has a rich history, being used as an offering to the gods by the Mayans (who also called copal “pom”, meaning “brain of the sky”) and Aztecs. Even today, the indigenous peoples of South America use the copal to connect with the spirit world and thank the gods for the bounty of Mother Earth.
Copal was also used as a remedy for many diseases such as asthma, diarrhea or colds.
Copal Negro has an intense aroma and smells of musk and woods.
Since it liquefies during smoking, a small bowl or suitable surface is strongly recommended.
