Origin and things worth knowing

Bibhitaki is considered one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional Indian healing art, and has been used in medicine for over 3,000 years. The ancient texts of Ayurvedic narrations such as the Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita describe the use of Terminalia belerica as a tonic for the digestive system and to support liver function.

In traditional Chinese medicine, bibhitaki is known as "Ba Yue Zha" and is used to treat conditions such as cough, asthma and chest pain.

Bibhitaki is also widely used in Unani medicine, a traditional form of medicine common in the Islamic world. Combining Ayurvedic and Greek methods, Unani medicine uses Terminalia belerica to treat diabetes, diarrhea and as a detoxifier.

Bibhitaki is a valuable component of Triphala, a 3-component Ayurvedic remedy with incredible effects and a very broad spectrum of effects.

The 3 components are Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amalaki and are mixed in a ratio of 1:1:1.
